STRUCTURES
These sculptures were originally intended as macquettes for larger installations but they work well on their own terms.
Agora was inspired by the Cardo, an ancient marketplace in the Old City of Jerusalem.
Tenements has two parts. “Downtown” is the facade of the Brooklyn, NY, brownstone buildings that my father grew up in, all tight and irregular. The other, “Uptown”, is regulated, even, less lively.
The Paredes series was inspired by the family weekend drive to visit relatives. We passed by Co-op City in the Bronx and would speculate on things that all those people living in those monoliths were doing at the same time.
